Pigeon Island off the east coast of Sri Lanka is a Marine National Park, made up almost entirely of broken coral. I don't know if the feet and feet of coral that you climb across has been increased by the tsunami of 2004, but the snorkelling is not that amazing as the coral is quite dull and dead in quite a few places. We had a great trip provided by a local family from Irrakkakandi, who also cooked us lunch, took us on a crocodile spotting trip up to the lagoon and were overwhelmingly friendly given their exposure to the civil war and the tsunami. Resilience personified.
